A Moment of Inspiration

#1 in a series of REFLECTIONS by the author

St. Mary of the Annunciation. Designed by architect Dirk Lohan.

David J Kennebeck, July 2022

Five years ago on this date (July 29, 2017) I was inspired to write a particular story. By "inspired," I don't mean I was attracted to an idea, or encouraged to do it, or even asked by someone to do it. No, I mean "inspired", like "in spirit", or "from the Spirit."

The inspirational thought was two words: "Ron's story." That's it. Not much to work with. I was confused, but not fearful. I was cautious, but curious. I was resistant, but not unwilling.

I believed it meant a story about Ron Lewinski, a friend and former pastor, whose funeral I had attended three days prior. At the time, I thought the idea was for me to write about "Ron." Now, I believe I was wrong.

During the past five years, I've realized what that inspiration meant: tell the story that Ron wanted told.  My narrative imparts what $ Ron$  (the pastor), $ Dirk Lohan$  (the architect), and the staff and parishioners achieved at a small country parish in Illinois. They did what most could not envision and what many thought was impossible.

The story isn't yet published. Before it is, I'll let you know. Depending on who you are, you may be in it. (More about that in a future message.) Until then, I'll occasionally share experiences from my journey while working on The Pivotal Pastor.

Meanwhile, I'd like to hear any questions or thoughts you have.
