A portion of a map of MCHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS

In this portion of a map of McHenry County (IL) from 1872, the black square identifies the location of the village of Johnsburg. Land settled by the Schmitt Family is further north (off the top of this map), a few miles from the Wisconsin/Illinois border. St. John the Baptist Catholic Chuch is located within the square (see next image).

JOHNSBURG VILLAGE PROPER - 1872

This enlargement of the square in the map above shows properties with the Village of Johnsburg (IL) and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Both the village and the church were established by the Jacob Schmitt, Nicolaus Adams, and Nicolaus Frett families who emigrated from Munk (Germany) in 1841.
